Beer is the local language

The Oregon Brewers Guild — founded in 1992, one of the nation's oldest craft brewers associations — exists because this state has been brewing at scale for decades. Portland happy hours still treat beer as the default order. The Pearl prices the rest of the rail too. Vaux posts Wine (8) and Cocktails (9) inside that same everyday 4–6 window — read as $8 wine and $9 cocktails. Screen Door posts $5 house wine and wells for its two weekday windows. Over on Hawthorne, The Sapphire Hotel (5008 SE Hawthorne Blvd) posts Everyday from 4 to 6 and 10 to Close with an Old Fashioned 10, a Pickle Martini 10, a Weekly Punch 8, Well Drinks 6, and a PBR Tall Can 3 — read as $10 cocktails, $8 punch, $6 wells, and a $3 tall can — plus $5 bites like the Sapphire Salad and a $6 Caesar Salad and $8 artichoke and arugula dip.

How to drink it like a local

  • Afternoon: $4 slice and a discounted pint on Mississippi, inside the daily 3–5.
  • Golden hour: $5 draft or $9 cocktail in the Pearl (Vaux, everyday 4–6) or $5 wine and wells at Screen Door (Mon–Fri 4:30–5:30).
  • Late: Hawthorne takes the second shift — Sapphire pours again 10 to close.
